Who is StephenPMurphy.com?
I don't know who these people are - but they seem to be having a nice moment with each other and I don't have the heart to ask them to finish up their little chat and move along. I just don't want to come across as rude to these complete strangers that are hanging out on my website. I believe this stems from something that happened to me in Ireland. I was exploring the Irish countryside with the woman I was married to at the time. We were driving along down these narrow Irish roads, and we took a left on to an even narrower road just to see where it goes. I think they call these very narrow roads "Boreen's", but I might be wrong, and I probably should check google but I'd rather be surprised. These are roads that are almost always unpaved, often un-named, and you need to pull way over if someone else is coming in the other direction. So we're driving down this boreen and another car comes along, the driver of the other car sees me and quickly pulls over. I drive by (of course, on the left because everything's backward over there). He gives me the old Irish one finger wave. It's not what it sounds like. It's actually the way people wave to each other over there while driving. You keep your hands on the wheel, and hold your right index finger up while making eye contact with the other driver (I'm told it stems from the days of horse and buggy and keeping the reins in both hands at all times). So we wave back, and we both continue on our way. Then about 10 seconds later, the road ends at this farmhouse. So it turns out I was driving up this guy's driveway and he just pulled over and waved me through.
So that's where I picked up this philosophy of inclusiveness. Co-existing with other people that may even seem to be invading my space. This guy who let me just drive up his driveway and went on his way taught me this virtue. So I am going to try to just ignore those people up there and go on with my business.
At this time, StephenPMurphy.com is comprised of one person, who just so happens to be aptly
named "Stephen P Murphy". What an Unbelievable Coincidence! It never
ceases to amaze and bewilder me that my parents had such foresight to name me the same
name that would years later be the name of my company. They must have been Psychic.
So actually I could have called this section "About Me" but that's too self-centered. Fact is,
I've always liked the name. I used to tell people that my name was "PH Balanced" (get it?
there's a ph in both my first and last name). I thought it was funny. Well maybe it's the
kind of thing that's margainally funny the first time you hear it, but then after hearing it
enough times... not so funny anymore. All that said, I actually go by the name of Steve. Just
as "About Me" sounds too self centered, I think "Stephen" sounds too formal.
So maybe some day I'll be able to actually employ some of those people who seem perfectly delighted to be hanging around up there at the top of my About Us webpage, but in the meantime, Please click here to view my Resume
